Description:Performs Medical Office Assistant duties: Takes vital signs, recognizes emergencies; prepares and maintains examination and treatment area, interviews and takes patients’ history, prepares patients for procedure, assist physicians with examinations and treatment, maintain medication records and be able to respond to medical emergencies, must be able to apply principles of Aseptic Technique and Infection Control.
Medical Scribe Specialist performs clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a medical clinic setting. Primary goal is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the physician.
Duties:• Performs accuchecks, UA dipstick, urine UCG, rapid strep test, and influenza test.
• Takes vital signs i.e., weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, head and chest circumference of children and adults attending clinic.
• Performs prior authorizations, electrocardiograms, ear lavage, pulmonary function tests, immunizations, injections, nursing, electronic medical record intake/documentation and health reminders.
• Maintains logs such as exam rooms, glucometer, weight scale, referrals, emergency bag, eye wash, and stock medication.
• Provides patients with appointments.
• Tracks referrals such as radiology, emergency room, hospital, etc.
• Prepares work area for patient using universal precaution.
• Orders and stocks work area with medical supplies as needed.
• Assists physician with patient care, exams and treatment.
• Documents accurately in Electronic Health Record.
• Operates and maintain facilities and equipment safety.
• Performs CPR and first aid as necessary.
• Administer medication as directed by physician.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Accurately and thoroughly transcribes medical visits and procedures to the electronic health record as they are hand written by the physician, including but not limited to:
o Patient medical history and physical exam,
o Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, including nurses and physician assistants,
o Patient education and explanations of risks and benefits,
o Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
o Assist providers in navigating in EHR.
• Spot mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information in order to reduce errors. All addenda must be signed off by a physician. Ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record. Alert physician when chart is incomplete.
• Comply with specific standards that apply to the style of medical records and to the legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and for keeping patient information confidential.
• List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as written by the physician.
• Transcribe patient orders including laboratory tests, radiology test, medications into electronic health record.
Qualifications:• Graduate from an accredited high school or GED program.
• Graduate and receive certificate of completion from an accredited vocational/technical school in Medical Office Assistant.
• Must be Registered/Certified with National Association for Healthcare Professionals or American Allied Health. Registration/certification must be kept current.
• Must be certified and credentialed as Medical Scribe Specialist. Certification must be kept current.
• Two years’ experience in this field preferred.
• Must have a current BLS/CPR certificate.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
